About

Embroidery in India is diverse and sympathetically colorful, which includes dozens of embroidery styles that vary by region and clothing styles. Religious embroidery held great importance in India as it is a land of many religions. Dress adorned with religious embroidery is considered auspicious and is worn in religious activities and occasions. Apart from dresses, religious embroidery is also seen done on painting, accessories, jewelry, bags etc.

Narrative

For millennia, crafters have continuously found ways to turn everyday objects into works of art. While this interest has culminated in a myriad of decorative art forms, none has resonated quite as strongly as embroidery. The story of embroidery is the story of the world. Embroidery has existed, in some form, in every population across the globe. Whether it’s displayed on clothing, home goods, or as an artwork, it’s a timeless craft that is an integral part of our material culture. Prevalent in cultures across the globe, embroidery has developed into one of the world’s most beloved crafts. Today, many contemporary creatives continue to carry out the age-old practice, making it a popular choice for experienced crafters and aspiring artisans alike.

INDIAN WEAVERS

- Sarojini Naidu

Indian Weavers is a short but beautiful poem written by Sarojini Naidu.

The flow of language is full of rhythm and word images. The weavers who do embroidery are busy weaving clothes in different colours throughout the day. Each colour as well as the timing of the day symbolises different occasions in one’s life. In the morning, they weave a bright blue coloured cloth for a newborn baby symbolising birth and happiness. During the day, they weave a bright coloured purple and green cloth for the marriage veil of a queen signifying life’s celebrations. Finally, at night, they weave a white coloured cloth for the shroud of a dead body signifying death.

My name is Ms. Kanika Kapoor. I am a TGT Computer Science Educator at Aravali International School, Faridabad. When I had the opportunity to know about the Global School Net and their Cyber Fair I became very excited as i was already the part of this project last session. I was leading the cyberfair team of educators and students and was a mentor of the students of IT team who were involved in the development of the Cyber Fair website, for which I extend my gratitude towards the management and the students. I did the research on the guide book and provided it to students which really impressed me with the idea and thoughts involved in this project. The categories provided were thought provoking and exciting. Loved to work on it with the students. Through the practical hands-on experience, exposure and research about Embroidery I am highly inspired to work on these kinds of projects. It even made me believe in myself and my practical skills. I guided the students to make an outstanding website. The journey of research about Embroidery and putting in practical skills was full of great experiences. While preparing this project I saw how students from different grades came together and created a cohesive team to build this project from scratch. I really wish all my students a good luck and surely god will crown you with success.

My name is Ms. Vinita Khaneja. I am a PGT Economics Educator at Aravali International School, Faridabad. I extend my gratitude towards the management to provide me opportunity to work with the students on this project and research about this interesting topic i.e., Embroidery in Southern part of India. Embroidery in southern India is the manifestations of excellent craftmanship having its origin in ancient times. It is found on several artefacts and is highly famed throughout the world. Embroidery of southern region is characterized by the intricate pattern made by threads of vibrant hues. I was extremely enthusiastic for this exposure and research work as it really provided new learnings and improved personal & professional skills. Students of Class XI were very excited to work on this project. Really, this was a great experience for all of us. I ensured that all information and facts collected from authentic sources. Students have done lots of research on the topic and gathered all facts and information to make it worth watching for others. It gives me immense pleasure to share with you all my experience of being involved in the Cyber Fair at Aravali International School, Sector 85 Faridabad. The project followed the theme of Indian Embroidery. I understand that the idea of the Cyber Fair is to encourage deep understanding of the topic and indeed it did help my team I in understanding diverse aspects of Indian Embroidery. At this point I would like to thank my team members, Chetanya and Srishreya from Grade IX who not only supported each other but also translated the abstract idea to readable words. Their efforts are worth applaud and had helped our team build the authentic content. Cyber Fair in my working knowledge helped us along with students establish a deep understanding of research and amalgamating the research with the practical industry of Embroidery. As team we worked together to accomplish common goals that aimed at betterment of our skills and knowledge.In our little efforts we have left no stone unturned to create an depth insight of the Embroidery industry for our readers. We have tried weaving all the aspects of the Embroidery that we feel might interest you and also educate you. During the research my team and I were fascinated with facts that we have bought on surface for our readers. We hope that the project not only meets the curiosity of our reader but also exceeds the expectations of the evaluators.I must conclude with a great thank to the Aravali Team to have given me this opportunity to expand my horizon in the field of research. Myself Debapriya Gaur rendering the responsibility of Political Science educator and coordinating for the senior wing at the esteemed institution – Aravali International School. I was entrusted with the responsibility of mentoring my team headed by Ms. Kanika Kapoor and other educators who guided our dear learners in the journey of the – Global School Net and Cyber Fair. I must admit that the experience was awesome…. the theme – ‘Embroidery’ which is losing its glory in the modern mechanical era got me connected immediately to the endeavor. The importance of working and knowing about an art form which is a hallmark of our Indian Culture made my experience an altogether different one. The research done by our students enriched my knowledge on embroidery and learning from our learners was such a thrill. The initiative taken by our educators to motivate and guide the students in the best possible way to get the best out of each participant truly deserves a special mention. When I reviewed the research work done, the interviews conducted and above all the creation of the website a sense of pride I had for our team. Cooperation, collaboration and team work was at its best. I deeply extend my gratitude to my institution for providing me with such a wonderful opportunity and I definitely look forward for more such exposure. My name is Prial Vaishnav. I am a student at Aravali International School, Faridabad. Few days back, I had the opportunity to know about the Global School Net and their Cyber Fair. I was made a part of the team of students in video- editing in the website making. I already knew a few things based upon video editing and designing, worked on various platforms for video editing, learnt to create videos and used new features which were unknown before. Loved to work on it. Through working on various platforms for video editing and designing, like Filmora, it actually made me learn how to make professional videos. It even made me believe in myself and my practical skills. I learnt to direct my energies and effort in an efficient and positive way. The journey of creating videos, designing and putting in practical skills was full of great experiences. While preparing this project I saw how all of us worked as a team and guided each other, striving for perfection. Overall, it was a great experience with a lot of learning

Through experience of programming,practical exposure and research about embroidery my soul is strengthened, ambition inspired and success achieved. It helped me groom my web development skills to the next level and prepare me to be ready for any other competition. I learnt to direct my energies and effort in an efficient and positive way. The journey of programming and practical exposure was full of new experiences. My teachers played an important role in helping me learn programming and all about the things like Java, HTML, CSS which now makes me capable of designing a well-made website. It even provided me a motif to utilize my free time for a better purpose. While preparing the website I had to think twice before doing something and then had to re-confirm it from my teacher if it was better so this ultimately made the project very interesting

My name is Aditi Kumari. I am a grade 9 student at Aravali International School, Faridabad. A few months ago, I had the opportunity to know about the Global School Net and their Cyber Fair. I was made a part of the tech team for which I extend my gratitude towards the educators. Previously also I have been working on designs on Canva. But this time I got more exposure to image editing and adding borders, adjusting their size. I have discovered about many embroideries of my country while researching for the images for the website. I had a wonderful experience while working on this project.

Words are powerless to express my gratitude and thank the management to provide me opportunity to work on this project and research about this interesting topic Embroidery in Southern part of India. I would even like to thank Ms. Vinita Khaneja for leading us throughout. She was pleasant, firm, and professional while assessing us. Thank you so much for your time and patience. I am usually very very anxious about approaching professors, but she made things very simple and human. Throughout last few weeks working on this project I learned a lot it helped me a lot in gaining adequate knowledge about the project and explore about our surroundings. I have completed this project after proper analysis and research through authentic sources. It also increased my intellect development. Having the knowledge of different stitches for embroidery makes me understand what I am actually doing. Learning the embroidery devlopment also helps in identifying the niche, target market as well as fulfilling their interests. Embroidery went into a period of decline briefly in the late Middle Ages but came back. Crafts are unique in style and distinct in composition and bear ample testimony to cultural heritage. With a history of tribal settlement in the region, Sourthern Indian crafts manifest a piece of tribal society and culture. The fact finding guided me about the impact of craft on luxury fashion, economic trades and development.This was new to me but had a lot of integrated knowledge , I was pleasured being a part of it.

I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to the management who trusted on me and offered opportunity to explore and research different embroidery which are practised in Eastern part of India. I was extremely passionate for working on this project as it seemed to be interesting and full of knowledge. I would also like to thank Ms. Punita Khanna who helped us in every situation where we needed a mentor. She helped us in all way possible and tried to pave a easy way so that we can complete our research work efficiently. Her suggestions & instructions made our project more easy and interesting. I am mostly outspoken and have an optimistic approach to most things in life thus without hesitating I just enrolled myself in this project but later on after doing some research work and going through various materials I was impressed and also amazed as I was going to know the rich culture of our country and how some hardworking people are carrying the legacy and ethical values of our ancestors. During my research work I polished my vocabulary and writing skills and taught myself how to face new challenges. It took us beyond the classroom learning to the learning from practical way or through experience which is more important than bookish knowledge. In this project we also dealt with the hardship faced by craftsmen and how they build this beautiful embroidery without any aid of technology. How simply with just help of some tools they make out a beautiful fabrics .Without any greed they are trying to carry and restore the lost beauty of embroideries. It is very difficult for them to challenge the market which is flooded with machine oriented clothes. This project not only developed some salient features within me but also taught the importance of culture of our own country. It was honour to be part of such esteemed project and tried to gain some integrated knowledge.

And now slowly and gradually these embroideries are gaining popularity again. This enthusiasm of the artisans taught me not to give up on anything and to give my 200% in everything. I am glad that I was a part of this wonderful and interesting project that help me learn the beauty of the Indian cultures.

I did the research work on the topic Indian embroidery and helped the IT matters of the website development, I was immensely impressed with the thought of coming up with such an innovative and amazing competition.This brought me closer to my freinds,teachers and a new confidence in me.This project gave us an opportunity to revive all the stories of the hardworking weavers. I am Purav Sharma of Grade 10 studying in the prestigious Aravali International School (Sec-85).CyberFair gave me an opportunity to explore our rich heritage. it helped me get a better insight into Indian Embroidery and know more about the embroiders. The life journey of the embroiders , the story of their migration , their determination to work hard and make the best embroided clothes was very inspiring for me. I researched on the internet and also read some books online and offline that helped me gather lots of information about the roots of Indian Embroidery. On this exploration we read so many new things about different types of Indian embroidery from different regions and also their lost recipes. All in all it was a great learning,it gives me a sense of pride . Will be glad to participate in projects like cyberfair and more of cyberfair!
